Road to Fitness: How Atlanta Fitness Experts do Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is less than a week away (YAY!) and I cannot wait to stuff myself silly on turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes and my all-time favorite: the MIL’s pumpkin pie with extra whipped cream! I’ve been hitting trying to hit the gym extra hard in preparation for the big feast, and plan to take Louie for a long walk on the beach (he’s never seen the ocean!) the morning of Thanksgiving for a little pre-feast exercise in Virginia Beach! What are you already craving for Thursday?!

To kick off Thanksgiving week, we asked our favorite leading ladies of fitness to share their guiltiest Thanksgiving indulgences and how they work off the calories after Turkey Day.

Tara Joiner, Pink Barre

Q: What’s your FAVORITE Thanksgiving guilty pleasure?

A: Sitting still in front of the fireplace and eating from sunup to sundown….my favorite part of the meal is actually the Italian antipasta we have before the big feast! Think lots of delicious cheese, sumptuous bread, and Italian antipasta!

Q: What’s your FAVORITE way to work off the calories?

A: I love to pre-game with a Turkey Trot and then teach or take barre classes post-Thanksgiving at my studio Pink Barre to feel great the next day!

Katie Schrier, Barre3 Atlanta

Q: What’s your FAVORITE Thanksgiving guilty pleasure?

A: A glass (or two) of a Super Tuscan wine.

Q: What’s your FAVORITE way to work off the calories?

A: Taking a class at barre3. A few years ago, while working as a barre3 instructor in DC, I started the tradition of teaching a class on Thanksgiving. I love the way it brings people together to do something positive for their health. This is my first year owning my own studio, and I’m excited to continue the tradition here in Atlanta with classes at 9:45 and 11:00 a.m. In an effort to give back to our local community, barre3 South Buckhead is collecting canned food for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Monday, November 24th – Sunday, November 30th bring in 3 cans of food and receive a free class!

Tammy Stokes, West Coast Workout

Q: What’s your FAVORITE Thanksgiving guilty pleasure?

A: Red wine and a small portion of my mom’s stuffing.

Q: What’s your FAVORITE way to work off the calories?

A: All of our West Coast Workouts increase the metabolic rate, incorporate full body exercises and include heart rate elevation. I have the hardest time picking my favorite workout because I know it’s the variety of our workouts that serves the body best. Any one of them is my choice for kicking it up after a bit of indulging.

There you go ladies and gents, apparently antipasta, wine and stuffing are top of the list for Thanksgiving indulgences followed by a Black Friday workout! How will you be working off the calories post-Turkey Day?
