You’ve probably passed by Article 14 a hundred times on your way to Piedmont Park or past the Crescent Street spots like South City Kitchen or Flip Flops, (or maybe Opera is more your jam). If you’re not as familiar, it’s nestled right next to Highland Bakery at the bottom of the Symphony Tower on 14th Street just shy of Peachtree. Heck, Meg and I almost passed right by it on our way to dinner a few weeks ago! Thank goodness for all the signage right outside, and you can park in the deck right next door (complimentary parking #FTW!).
As we walked into the bar area, we caught the tail-end of the Bourbon & Bites tasting. If you’re a bourbon lover, you will definitely want to check out this event occurring the first Tuesday of every month from 5-7 in the bar. The bar itself is quite lovely and very spacious and the sitting area is large enough to hold a solid happy hour crowd.
We planted ourselves in one of the oversized leather booths in the back so we could take in the scene and peruse the menu.
We started with the prosciutto peaches (a must if you love grilled peaches like I do!) and the artisanal cheese and charcuterie plate. I would go back simply to stuff my face with these dishes. The fresh summer peaches were grilled to perfection and the saltiness of the prosciutto provided balance to the sweet dish. For the cheese plate, there were 3-4 cheeses and meats along with olives, crusty grilled bread and marcona almonds (the best!), and the selection is always changing.
The cheese plate would be perfect for noshing over happy hour drinks, and they’ll bring you more bread upon request.
Next, we split the kale salad topped with toasted pine nuts, dried cherries and a very tasty bacon vinaigrette dressing (the vinaigrette part totally cancels out the bacon part right?!). I love a good kale salad and this one would be perfect for lunch topped with grilled chicken.
We were getting pretty full, so we went on the lighter side (or so we thought) for entrees. I had the salmon with fava beans and risotto and Meg had a special of the day, lobster risotto. I guess we were both in a risotto mood!
Both risottos were super tasty and flavorful! I may have preferred Meg’s lobster slightly over my salmon, and she was nice enough to let me have a bite (just one though…). The portions were also huge, so we both left with doggie bags and were too full for dessert for once! We just ordered wine to drink (I enjoyed a delicious pinot noir), but the cocktail list looked very legit including the make your own Manhattan option for you bourbon and whiskey lovers.
The menu has a little something for everyone whether you’re having a working lunch or wining and dining clients post-office hours. If you work in Midtown and need a new after-work spot, I think you’ll be pleased with all that Article 14 has to offer: comfy seating, filling apps, strong bar menu, and yummy entrees if you need a full meal in the stomach after a few HH drinks. Bon appetite!
*We enjoyed a lovely dinner courtesy of Article 14, and all thoughts are our own!
