We don’t pretend to be a beauty blog, or a fashion blog for that matter, (although we do try to dress cute most of the time!), but sometimes you just have to get real about a beauty routine miss.
I had been reading all about this fancy schmancy “Micellar Water” on the beauty blogs for some time, so I eventually coughed up the $25 bucks for the Bioderma brand and gave it a go for myself. At $25+ a pop for a facial cleanser that was mostly made of water, I definitely did my research here, here, and here before jumping into that purchase. I mean, if it’s good enough for VOGUE it’s probably worth a shot…[Side note: Brian and I share an Amazon Prime account and he gets the emails. Pretty sure he questioned that purchase. My, ‘it’s for the blog!’ response can only work for so long.]
The idea is that this stuff is supposed to be more gentle on your skin than other harsh cleansers and it goes on and off pretty easily with a cotton ball. No face scrubbing or even washing needed and your face is squeaky clean! Plus, let’s get real, it’s French, so anything the ladies over there do is okay by us Americans (cheese, bread and wine all day, every day!).
Okay, so now for the real deal. I was super excited to try out what was soon to be the easiest part of my night-time routine. I even purchased special cotton swab squares to use with this stuff after reading a bunch of reviews online – I was THAT into it. I grabbed my cotton swabs, dabbed a little micellar water on one and started wiping off my make-up. Three pads later and my make-up wasn’t even close to off, plus I was just itching to wash my face. It just didn’t feel clean! I felt like there was some residue from the micellar water on my skin, which is obviously the point, but my skin just didn’t feel CLEAN. And, this stuff that was supposed to be a time-saver, really saved no time at all, because I had to use so many cotton swabs in the process. And I still splashed some water on my face when all was said and done because I couldn’t stand the residuey feeling.
I did give it a go a few more times to see if I just needed to get used to the stuff, and same result. I don’t wear heavy make-up, so I can only imagine how much of that stuff someone who wears a ton would go through! The $25 bottle would be gone in one make-up removal sesh. No thanks! I am now back to my boring Aveeno face wash and Almay eye make-up remover pads and have yet to give a different micellar water brand a second thought. One was enough for me. If anyone wants half a bottle, I’m selling it for half-price 😉
