For me, healthy eating is equally as important as working out when I’m aiming to look and feel better. My body responds really well to limiting sugar and carbs – but it’s hard for me stay away from the beige food group because of two major factors: a serious lack of willpower and a desire to eat food that doesn’t taste like cardboard.
Although the lack of willpower is a battle I have to fight alone, a new restaurant in Buckhead is helping me with the whole healthy food that doesn’t suck thing: True Food Kitchen.
Stripes and I got a sneak peek of True Food Kitchen last weekend – a new healthy dining destination in Lenox Mall that offers a wide, healthy selection of vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free options. The chefs subscribe to Dr. Andrew Weil’s anti-inflammatory food pyramid, which along with influencing inflammation, is supposed to provide steady energy and ample vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids dietary fiber. According to Dr. Weil, “Following an anti-inflammatory diet can help counteract the chronic inflammation that is a root cause of many serious diseases, including those that become more frequent as people age. It is a way of selecting and preparing foods based on science that can help people achieve and maintain optimum health over their lifetime.” Sounds good, right? It was.
Check out the Vegetable Crudites with Tzatziki & Black Olive dip! The presentation was beautiful – but clearly we were a little intimidated by the colorful and plentiful veggies!
The drinks were incredible and SO fresh! There wasn’t a syrup or mix to be found – and the flavors were so wonderful together! We tried the cucumber-citrus skinny margarita – which was a mix of tequila, lime, fresh mint and soda (I need to learn to make this one at home) and the BLackberry Smash – Buffalo Trace Bourbon, blackberry, black team honey and lemon! Yum!
The Panang Curry was a much healthier version of the dish I’m familiar with – and while it lacked the white rice and full-fat sauce I know and love, it was a really nice dish with great flavor!
For dessert we had Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp – my favorite dish (and the least healthy – go figure) of the day! The perfect blend of sweet and tart!
We also ran into great friends! How fun is that?
True Food Kitchen has locations across the country – so make sure you check out if they are in your area! It’s a fantastic option – even if you aren’t a fan of health food!
We were lucky enough to try True Food Kitchen for free. It’s the closest I’ll ever get to dine n ditch – and it was fantastic! Oh, and the food didn’t suck either. 😉 All thoughts are our own.
