Atlanta friends – have you heard about the Downtown Pop Up Shops that will be taking over empty storefronts along the Atlanta Streetcar Route this summer? 14 retailers will officially be open for business beginning this Saturday, June 7 in conjunction with a grand opening celebration and Pop Up Shop Crawl from 4 to 9 p.m. this Saturday that is open to the public and features giveaways + the key to any good party: FOOD & DRINKS!
The concept behind the pop up shops is pretty darn cool. Central Atlanta Progress (CAP), a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the vitality of Downtown Atlanta, is allowing temporary retailers to “pop up” & generate revenue while promoting retail and shopping along the streetcar route. What a good idea! Word on the street…car is they received more than 100 applications to fill the empty storefronts and the selected retailers get three free months with the option of signing a permanent lease at the end of the program.
Downtown Pop Up retailers include: Sock Fancy, ModernTribe, Arbitrary Living, Just Add Honey Tea Company, The Byrd’s Box, Brixtix Bakery for Dogs, Connections, The Indie Craft Experience, Fresh.i.Am., Civil Bikes, Rob Simmons Gallery, Fallen Arrows, and Bliss In Me Meditation. For more on each retailer’s location and the Downtown Pop Up route, visit the interactive map at www.atlantadowntown.com/guide/retail/pop-up-shops.
I’m really impressed by the approach CAP is taking. It’s not a handout for these retailers – it’s a win win situation for the community, economic interests and shopaholics like the Roadies. See you there?
